Rail modernization

As of 1.1.2003, pursuant to Act No. 77/2002 Coll., Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organization assumed the obligation to provide modernization of the railway infrastructure owned by the Czech Republic. The rail modernization refers to all investments that purchase or value up assets representing the infrastructure and assets being a part of the rail.

SŽDC priorities in the area of rail modernization:

• Modernization of four railway corridors
• Modernization of selected railway junctions
• Interoperability of selected railway network
• Continuing electrification of selected railway lines
• Regional projects
• Rationalization of selected lines and railway stations
• Investments in the railway infrastructure assets to sustain its operability
• Safety enhancement on level crossings
• Prospective preparation for high-speed lines implementation on the Czech territory with a view to connecting crucial conurbations to the European system of high-speed lines
