New traction substation at Albrechtice will ensure reliable operation of trains with electric traction in Český Těšín region
Albrechtice u Českého Těšína, 21 October 2015 – Today, the Railway Infrastructure Administration festively completed the construction of a traction substation at Albrechtice. The new converter station is crucial for maintaining railway transport on an important connecting route between Ostrava and Český Těšín in the current extent, operation smoothness notwithstanding.
The traction substation serves for transferring electrical power from the distribution network to parameters necessary for feeding the catenary of adjacent railway lines. The distribution system feeds Albrechtice railway station with 22 kV high voltage that will be converted to 3 kV direct current which is a value characteristic for feeding power system on the railway in the whole Northern part of the Czech Republic.
The system was based for approximately 20 years on a mobile traction substation. However its technology passed tis lifetime period and was functioning only thanks to intense maintenance. Without implementing such a construction, a failure of trains with electric traction operation would be imminent.
”The new traction substation will ensure a reliable source of electrical power and end the twenty ears long provisional period. Moreover it will increase operation safety as it will enable to partly feed lines not directly adjacent to the converter station in case of emergency. Operation smoothness on a backbone railway network will thus be ensured “, says Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of the Railway Infrastructure Administration.
The premises of the new traction substation were built near the current installation. It is a fenced ground-floor building with new technology for feeding the catenary, cables, telecommunication equipment and electrical fire and safety signalling. The traction substation was also connected to the current catenary.
Total planned costs of the construction designated as Construction of a traction substation at Albrechtice railway station amount up to 149,999,626 CZK (VAT excluded). The investor is the Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organisation. The project was co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport up to a maximum amount of 109,115,486 CZK. National financing was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
