Optimisation of the line from Bystřice nad Olší to Český Těšín accelerated both regional and long-distance trains
Třinec, 18 December 2013 – Completing modernisation of Rail Transit Corridor III in the section between railway stations Bystřice nad Olší and Český Těšín brought more comfortable travelling as well as decreasing journey times both in regional and long-distance trains. Tilting-body trains can run at a speed up to 160 km/h in this section. The construction which started in May 2009 was festively completed today by the Railway Infrastructure Administration.
The construction was dealing with optimisation of the line sections Bystřice nad Olší – Třinec and Třinec – Český Těšín and at the same time with reconstruction of Třinec railway station. Within this operation, railway substructure on the reconstructed tracks was completely replaced and reconstruction of bridges and the overhead line took place. The final result was a line speed increase up to 140 km/h for classical trains and up to 160 km/h in certain sections for tilting-body trains. Using modern safety equipment at stations and on railway lines enabled increasing safety as well.
Works included also construction of underpasses and ensuring barrier-free access. Greater comfort and higher safety for passengers in railway stations was assured by increasing boarding edges on the platforms and lighting reconstruction. Stations and stops were also equipped with new information equipment. Construction works within optimisation were taken up by construction of the railway stop Třinec centrum which shortened walking distance to the trains for a major part of city inhabitants considerably.
Construction implementation costs amounted almost up to 2.7 billion CZK (VAT excluded). The construction is co-financed by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund within the Operational programme Transport for 2007–2013. The EU contribution could amount up to 2.003.922,668 CZK. National financing is assured by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
