Český Brod acquires more comfortable access to platforms

The Railway Infrastructure Administration completed reconstruction of Český Brod railway station. The biggest asset of the whole project is an extension of the underpass and ensuring barrier-free access both from the passenger building and the Northern residential part of the city. The festive ceremonial in the railway station premises is a part of the 170 years celebration of the railway line Praha – Český Brod and 15 years of the Kostelec na Černými Lesy locality integration.    

 

 

 

”The underpass extension was a considerable help especially to inhabitants of the adjacent residential district Škvárovna as the way to the railway station became immediately shorter at least by 10 minutes. I would also like to emphasize the safety asset of this construction because thanks to a two-sided barrier-free access it will no longer be necessary to cross rails,” says Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of the Railway Infrastructure Administration.

Český Brod railway station is situated on an important corridor line leading from Praha to Česká Třebová and has three platforms: one external and two central ones with an underpass and stairs. Before the reconstruction, the external platform was quite unsatisfactory and level crossings across rails served for barrier-free access to the central platforms. Especially direct access to the railway station from the Northern part of the city was completely missing.

Builders extended the current underpass under the trackage to its Northern forefront, reconstructed all platforms, built elevators and thus ensured two-sided barrier-free access to the railway station. Besides that, the area for adjacent parking P+R was extended too. The project also included adaptations of the station’s safety and signalling equipment. The new information voice and visual system shows information on departures of trains and buses together. The most important overhead construction was a repair of central platforms’ roofing for a better structural gauge.

Total costs of the construction designated as Extension of the underpass and ensuring barrier-free access to the platforms at Český Brod railway station amounted to 72,863,000 CZK (VAT excluded). The investor was the Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organisation. The project was co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport; the contribution can amount up to 67,866,836 CZK. National financing of the project was assured by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
