Builders have moved to Český Těšín
Český Těšín, 10 March 2014 – Today the Railway Infrastructure Administration ceremoniously launched the total reconstruction of Český Těšín station. Investments worth over one billion Czech crowns follow on the recently completed optimization of the Bystřice nad Olší – Český Těšín railway line, being its second part.
The main objective of the project is to increase transport speed, safety and comfort of passengers and at the same time the effectiveness of freight transport. Total reconstruction of the superstructure and substructure will be primarily carried out on the main tracks of Těšín station. The underpass for passengers will also be repaired and equipped with three lifts to ensure barrier-free access. All platforms will be at the standardized height of 550 mm above the rail level. A camera system will be installed in the station to facilitate rail transport control, which will monitor the platform edges and underpass. Moreover, the existing Pragotron information letter boards will be replaced with a new system.
The overhead line will also undergo reconstruction. Relays and adjustments will be carried out on cable wiring and lighting and electric heating of switches will contribute to trouble-free operation in winter. The construction of a new traction substation will also be included in the project. Not only the important railway junction will receive modern security equipment, but so will its connecting line sections to Louky nad Olší and to Albrechtice u Českého Těšína. Future plans count with its connection to remote control from Central Dispatching in Přerov.
The winner of the public tender for the execution of the work is the association of companies Subterra a.s. (lead participant) and Metrostav a.s. (member of the association). The project is proposed to be co-financed by the European Union from the EU Cohesion Fund within the Operation Programme Transport for the period 2007–2013. This year an application will be submitted for co-financing to the European Commission. The extent of co-financing from the EU may reach a maximum of 78.96% from eligible costs of the construction, thus up to CZK 943,134,466. The financing of remaining costs will be ensured by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
