The EC adopted two big projects of the OP Transport
The European Commission adopted the first two big projects of the Operational Programme Transport in the Czech Republic
Prague, 07/01/2010 – The European Commission definitely adopted the first two big projects implemented under the Operational Programme Transport on 21st December 2009. The projects Optimization of the railway section Benešov u Prahy – Strančice and Electrification of the railway section including PEÚ Letohrad - Lichkov state border, 1st construction Letohrad (exclusive) - Lichkov state border were submitted to the European Commission in 2008. Now, it is certain that the Czech Republic will receive up to € 111 MM. for the project Benešov – Strančice and € 49,6 MM for the project Letohrad – Lichkov.
"Successful adoption of the first two big projects of the Operational Programme Transport by the European Commission shows a good sign for the near future; we are dealing with the finalization of the approval processes of many other significant transport projects. I believe that given such experience with these projects we will succeed in accelerating the approval process with the European Commission.“ said Gustav Slamečka, Minister of Transport.
The so-called Big projects have a different as well as more complex approval process than other projects. These projects of over EUR 50 MM. – after being approved by the Managing Body of the Operational Programme Transport (Ministry of Transport) – are submitted to be adopted by the European Commission. As for the first submitted projects, the European Commission made numerous comments that needed to be accepted. Due to multiple additions and revisions of the project application, the approval process took longer than one year. However, the Ministry of Transport in cooperation with the Railway Infrastructure Administration, s.o. has successfully concluded this process. Since the European Commission has presently been submitted other 7 big projects and other 18 are being prepared by the Managing Body of the Operational Programme of Transport to be submitted in the months to come, it is expected that other adopted big projects will soon turn up. Both projects are implemented within the pre-funding system from the State Fund of Transport Infrastructure with expected co-funding from EU-funds.
