SŽDC installed security cameras at selected level crossings supported by Moravskoslezský Region
Newly installed camera systems provide for enhanced security at three level crossings in Moravskoslezský Region. Places of road traffic offences committed often by drivers were chosen therefor. A year ago, it was installed in Polanka nad Odrou and Jistebník, besides that it was placed at the level crossing in Vendryně last month. Total investment cost to procure CCTV systems amount roughly to 5.6 million Czech Crowns. A substantial financial support amounting to 750 thousand Czech Crowns was provided by Moravskoslezský Region.
"To bring the new camera systems into effect, we have chosen the level crossings according to the road and railway operation rate with road traffic offences being committed frequently there to include mainly the not-respect of a warning at a level crossing by vehicle drivers, car jams between crossing barriers or breaking them," Mr. Jiří Macho, Director of SŽDC Regional Directorate in Ostrava says by adding more details at the same time as follows: "The camera systems monitor continuously the traffic situation in the area of level crossing. The system monitors both the activity of a signalling plant and the movement of road vehicles and pedestrians in the entire space of the railway crossing. Thus, acting as a prevention of road traffic offences, it contributes to an effective and rapid investigation of possible accidents as well."
The technology of entire system includes two cameras installed on each side of the level crossing to enable imaging the overall situation therein and imaging in detail the license plate of a vehicle. The data are recorded and provided upon request to the Police of the Czech Republic. The enhanced surveillance of compliance with rules at level crossings has a preventive impact on the drivers and it certainly assists the Police of the Czech Republic.
