Riding though the southern part of Brno railway junction will be faster and more comfortable

Modřice, 22 June 2015 – Today, the Railway Infrastructure Administration as construction investor festively launched line modernisation in the section Modřice - Brno-Horní Heršpice. The main asset of the project will be especially a line speed increase but also higher comfort and safety for passengers.

 

 

Modernisation of the line between Modřice and Horní Heršpice which is part of the Brno junction includes reconstruction of the railway superstructure and substructure, modernisation of the power feed and traction catenary and – last but not east – increasing line speed.

”Several modernisations are awaiting us on the South Moravian corridor – between Modřice and Horní Heršpice as well as in the section from Židenice to Maloměřice. Extensive construction works will take place on these lines and I believe passengers will forgive us temporary restrictions in operation. They will be pleasantly rewarded by a considerable decrease of journey times. When the construction is finished, line speed in the south of Brno will increase up to 160 km/h“, said Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of the Railway Infrastructure Administration.

Works on a line almost three kilometres long will also include a strengthening of safety components. Reconstruction of a level crossing in km 138.180 is planned. It will be ensured by barriers with four warning road signals which will considerably increase operation safety. Construction works include also modernisation of safety and communication equipment.

Total construction costs designated as Modernisation of the line section Modřice (outside) – Brno Horní Heršpice (outside) amount up to 242,665,286 CZK (VAT excluded). The investor is the Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organisation. The project is proposed for co-financing by the European Union under the Operational Programme Transport with a planned contribution amount from the Cohesion Fund reaching up to 180,543,017 CZK. National financing of the project is assured by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The supplier of works is Skanska a. s., with completion planned for this November.
