Reconstruction of the railway bridge in Tábor calls for restrictions on railway and road transport

18th April 2012, Tábor – The objective of the reconstruction is the remediation of the critical condition of the existing railway bridge on km 0,401 on the line Tábor – Bechyně which takes the railway line over Road II/137 in Budějovická Street in Tábor. During the reconstruction, the existing bridge structure of steel rivet structure with a span of 15,30 m will be removed and a new bridge with one span of 21,0 m with overhead steel welded structure with trough bridge deck will be built.

An extended bridge span results in extending the clear width of Budějovická Street, thus improving conditions on Road II/137. The construction also deals with the reconstruction of 265,5m long permanent way including the adjustment of the track geometry, the related modification of the contact line system, the relocation of cables running on the bridge, the relocation of the steam piping under the bridge (running along the Tábor bridge abutment) and the execution of a new sewer connection for the bridge drainage.

The construction commenced with preparatory work dealing with adjustments on the bridge structure and setting-out of nets in December 2011; the construction site was handed over on 15th February 2012 in attendance of all the involved bodies and organizations including the representatives of Tábor. The construction work will be carried out during the traffic closure from 2nd May 2012 to 26th June 2012. The implementation of the construction will call for occasional closures of the road under the bridge. In order to minimize the impact of closures, the dismantling of the existing bridge structure and the insertion of the new bridge will always be carried out at night since the traffic is minimal at that time.

After the track possession and the bridge restoration, adjustment work under the bridge will still proceed, i.e. the relocation of the steam piping to the permanent position along the new Tábor bridge abutment (early July during the closure of Heating Plant Tábor a.s.), the abutment walls tiling and final modifications of the pavement and the area near the bridge. The pavement will always be accessible on either one or the other side of the street during the construction.

The completion of the construction is anticipated in August 2012.

Preparatory work proceeds on the construction in April– setting-out of nets, preparation for the net relocation, temporary support of the steam piping, building a pedestrian subway, an assembly platform for the steel bridge structure and casing of the overhead structure, construction site facility.

During the traffic closure from 2.5. to 26.6.2012, the main construction workwill proceed – demolition of the original bridge, foundation engineering, bridge substructure, mounting of the overhead structure, concreting of the composite plate, permanent way, adjustment of the contact line system, net adjustment.

From 26.6.2012 till the end of the partial closure of the road, follow-up work will be carried out near the bridge and under the bridge – connecting the drainage to the sewerage, relocation of the steam piping, cleaning and restoration of the property.
