CZK 24 million for Repairs of Station Buildings This Year in Karlovy Vary Region

11.04.2018

This year, Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) invests approximately CZK 24 million in the implementation and project works for repairs of selected station buildings in Karlovy Vary Region. More financial means are ready for the preparation of important investments which will be implemented in the years to follow and for carrying out small repairs. Originally, the sum intended for these purposes should have been twice as high; however, due to a more demanding preparation, some constructions had to be postponed to the following years. The most important ongoing construction in the region is a renovation of the passenger building in Sokolov.

Immediately after taking over railway stations’ management by SŽDC in 2016, partial repairs of unsatisfactory access to Platform No 1 in Františkovy Lázně were launched. Renovations of internal premises, new filling of façade apertures and modernisation of the furniture started e.g. in Ostrov nad Ohří, Tršnice, Hájek and Stráž nad Ohří. We cannot omit the still partial but financially demanding repairs of the station building in Cheb.

After complex project preparation, extensive operations started last year including a complex renovation of the building coating (the facade, roof, sanitation measures against humidity, completing filling of apertures) together with interventions in Platforms No 1 roofing and surface. These constructions will be completed up to summer holidays at the latest. ”This concerns particularly passenger buildings at railway stations in Loket and Kynšperk nad Ohří. This year, we intend similarly to prepare renovations of station buildings in Tršnice, Dalovice, Stará Role and Stráž nad Ohří“, said Mr. Tomáš Drmola, Deputy Director General for Property Management. Only in 2017, approximately CZK 28 million was spent in Karlovy Vary Region for the constructions mentioned above.

As far as investment preparation of other projects in Karlovy Vary Region is concerned, those which made most progress are reconstructions of passenger buildings at railway stations in Bečov nad Teplou and Aš. Feasibility studies are under discussion, in the second case especially on optimisation of the whole building’s extent. More challenging renovations of station building are also in preparation for railway stations Františkovy Lázně and Cheb.

The most important construction in Karlovy Vary Region will be the passenger building renovation in Sokolov to be implemented this year. The construction with total costs of CZK 25 million was launched last year and will be completed this September. After necessary testing operation, it will be open for the public in September next year at the latest. Reconstruction of this railway station  is a worthy completion of the constructions called Modernisation of Sokolov Railway Station (including the trackage, the platform, safety and signalling equipment and the underpass) and Sokolov Bus Terminal (including the background for bus transport operators).

The reconstruction includes a roof coating exchange, façade thermal insulation, replacing local heaters by a central heating system, sanitation measures against humidity or all internal networks’ fixtures. Dispositional changes will be of crucial importance consisting in demolishing the original extensions and building a new check-in hall jointly for railway and bus transport, barrier-free access, the lavatories and areas for complementary commercial services pro to passengers and to the public. The entrance hall will be adapted based on architectonic designs assured by the city of Sokolov so that the new railway station shape gives credit not only to SŽDC but also to the city where the bus terminal and the railway station create a transport junction of considerable importance.
