Trains Will Run at a Speed up to 100 km/h from Ruzyně to the Airport
Správa železniční dopravní cesty has presented to the public a key part of a planned rail connection of the city of Prague with Václav Havel Airport Prague. The public presentation and discussion concerning the elaboration of project documentation of the project Modernization and a new construction of the line Praha-Veleslavín (including) – Prague-Václav Havel Airport (including) was held in the evening of 16 February, 2017 in the auditorium of the Faculty of Transportation of Czech Technical University in Prague.
The main components of the project include double-tracking and electrification of the existing single-track line between the railway stations Praha-Veleslavín and Praha-Ruzyně and a construction of 5.5 km long branching to the new underground station Prague-Václav Havel Airport Prague.
“Prague residents will appreciate that they will change from the underground at Veleslavín straight to a train and will be at the airport within 10 minutes. The trains will run at a maximum speed of 90 km/h between Praha-Veleslavín and Praha-Ruzyně. At the turn leading to the station Prague-Václav Havel Airport, there will they run at a speed of 90-100 km/h. As we have divided the whole modernisation into partial constructions that go through the permitting process individually, it can be assumed that this section could be completed sooner than, for example, the subsequent complicated Prague section”, said Mr. Bohuslav Stečínský, Deputy Director of the Civil Engineering Administration West of SŽDC.
Within the construction, SŽDC will restore the station Praha-Liboc, move the station Praha-Ruzyně to a new location, build a new station Praha-Dlouhá Míle and sink the station Praha-Veleslavín creating a direct connection to the subway line A. A P+R parking with a capacity of approximately 1,000 parking spaces is designed to be built at the station Praha Dlouhá Míle.
Modernisation and a new construction of the line Praha-Veleslavín (including) – Prague-Václav Havel Airport (including) has been currently in the phase of design works. SŽDC has recently signed a contract for making preparatory documentation of the construction.
The project is a part of the Modernisation of the line Prague - Kladno with connection to Václav Havel Airport Prague which is a priority transportation construction of the Czech government and one of the largest upcoming infrastructure projects in the Czech Republic. Prague will finally be among dozens of European cities with a direct connection of the international airport to the railway due to this investment. The largest central Bohemian town Kladno will have modern transport links with the capital city. The journey from the station Praha-Masarykovo (Prague Masaryk Station) to the station Prague-Václav Havel Airport will take 27 minutes and the journey from Kladno to Prague will be reduced from the current 50 to 30 minutes.
