The Railway Infrastructure Administration finalised the pilot project of selected railway crossings’ modernisation
Rumburk, 28 November 2013 – The Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) today festively finalised the investment operation Railway Crossings in Section Rumburk – Dolní Poustevna, Pilot project, having as objective a modernisation of safety equipment on thirteen selected railway crossings. SŽDC manages 8,070 railway crossings, in many cases their safety system does not correspond to current safety trends anymore. The project which is co-financed by the European Union will continue in the years to follow as well with modernisation of hundreds of similarly technically obsolete railway crossings.
The whole construction includes four sets of railway crossings on the Rumburk – Dolní Poustevna single-track line:
- Šluknov – Velký Šenov in km 10.039; 10.244 and 10.601 – three mechanically secured railway crossings serviced by transport employees were replaced by light signalling equipment Type PZZ – K with axle counters.
- Light crossing equipment in the district of Mikulášovice Lower Station in km 19.912; 20.035 and 20.591 – on two crossings, current and technically obsolete light safety equipment (USSR model) was completely exchanged. A third railway crossing was equipped with light safety equipment without barriers Type PZZ – AC.
- Rumburk – Velký Šenov in km 7.020; 14.661; 14.916 and 15.051 – these four railway crossings were previously secured by a St. Andrew’s cross only, now they are newly equipped by a light safety equipment Type PZZ – RE without barriers and with axle counters.
- Velký Šenov – Dolní Poustevna in km 16.680; 21.118 and 23.981 – three crossings here were also secured by a St. Andrew’s cross only, now they are newly equipped by a light safety equipment Type PZZ – RE without barriers and with axle counters.
The railway crossings mentioned above were not selected by random; they were mostly crossings secured by St. Andrew’s crosses only or by mechanical barriers serviced by transport employees. The oldest equipment dated from 1930, in other cases safety equipment was produced in 1972.
”Modernisation of safety equipment on railway crossings will not only limit the human factor but also increase reliability of the complete equipment, which will contribute considerably to railway and road operation fluency. By this step, the Railway Infrastructure Administration contributed once again in a considerable way to increasing safety on the railway,“ said Mr. Mojmír Nejezchleb, Deputy Director General for railway modernisation.
Based on a public tender, a supplier for all works was chosen - the Association Přejezdy Rumburk - Dolní Poustevna (Railway Crossings Rumburk – Dolní Poustevna) with the company AŽD Praha, s.r.o. as leading participant and MONZAS spol. s r.o., Ústí nad Labem and NTD group, a.s., Ústí nad Labem as other participants. The final price of construction works amounts to 67.236,057 CZK (VAT excluded). The construction is co-financed from the EU Cohesion Fund within the Operational Programme Transport. The maximum EU contribution amounts to 85% from eligible costs. National resources were provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
