Four new traction substations in Regions Zlín and Olomouc will ensure safer and more reliable operation on railway lines

24.09.2015

Today, the Railway Infrastructure Administration festively completed the construction of traction substations Říkovice, Střelná, Ústí u Vsetína and Valašské Meziříčí. The new converter stations are crucial for ensuring safety and reliable operation on the respective line sections. The necessity to implement these constructions resulted especially from increasing requirements for power feeding of railway lines.

”The traction converter stations were equipped mostly with obsolete technology and their technical state did not correspond to European parameters and standards. The new traction converter stations will ensure a reliable power source, moreover they will increase railway operation safety as they can also ensure partial power feeding of lines not directly adjacent to then in case of emergency“,  says Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of the Railway Infrastructure Administration.

The object of all four projects is a reconstruction of separate technological equipment at traction substations and service buildings, area low tension service lines, lighting and drainage. A part of the constructions includes also an adaptation of access roads, strengthened surfaces and laying communication cables.

Complete reconstruction and modernisation of these buildings and installations contributes especially to increasing the traction substations’ output due to higher requirements for power feeding of railway lines. The projects’ implementation also complies with demand for increased reliability of railway transport in the given line sections in any circumstances, be it more intense operation, unfavourable climate conditions or failures of neighbouring traction substations.

Total costs of the construction designated as Increasing traction output of traction substation Říkovice amount to 327,082,219 CZK (VAT excluded). The project was co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport up to an amount of 250,188,489 CZK.

Total costs of the construction designated as Increasing traction output of traction substation Střelná amount to 310,287,953 CZK (VAT excluded). The project was co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport up to an amount of 239,444,323 CZK.

Total costs of the construction designated as Increasing traction output of traction substation Ústí u Vsetína amount to 240,484,556 CZK (VAT excluded). The project was co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport up to an amount of 173,842,331 CZK.

Total costs of the construction designated as Increasing traction output of traction substation Valašské Meziříčí amount to 233,129,226 CZK (VAT excluded). The project was co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport up to an amount of 174,741,023 CZK.

The investor of all constructions is the Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organisation. National financing of the projects is assured by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
