Another line section between Prague and České Budějovice acquires a second track
Today, the Railway Infrastructure Administration festively completed at Soběslav railway station the modernisation of a part of Czech Rail Transit Corridor IV from Prague to České Budějovice, more specifically the section from Veselí nad Lužnicí to Soběslav. Passengers can look forward especially to shorter journey times and last but not least to more comfortable and safer travelling.
Of the most important assets of the project we can name adding a second track to the whole line section, especially increasing line speed up to 160 km/h. Thanks to this construction, citizens of the city of Soběslav finally had their railway station considerably modernised. Builders constructed one central and one external platform at the passenger building, an underpass with stairs and elevators; besides that, a new technological building has been constructed.
„Since March last year, several modernisations were taking place on the South Bohemia corridor and due to extensive construction works passengers had to tolerate a number of closures on the line. However, the result is really worth it. While the journey from Prague to České Budějovice takes currently approximately two hours and a half it will shorten down to 90 minutes only in the future,“ says Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of the Railway Infrastructure Administration.
The construction on a line 6.4 kilometres long between Veselí nad Lužnicí and Soběslav included also building modern safety equipment. Two existing level crossings were replaced by an overhead crossing, the remaining ones were closed. An exception is the crossing at Řípec-Dráchov railway stop which will be partly preserved when the construction is completed. Construction works also included modernisation of signalling equipment, traffic control technology and the catenary.
Total costs of the construction designated as Modernisation of the line Veselí nad Lužnicí-Tábor-Part II, Section Veselí nad Lužnicí-Doubí u Tábora Stage 1: Veselí nad Lužnicí – Soběslav amounts to 1,253,063,156 CZK (VAT excluded). The investor is the Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organisation. The project is approved for co-financing under the Operational Programme Transport by the European Union with a planned contribution amount from the Cohesion Fund reaching up to 617,662,760 CZK. National financing will be assured by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
