Festive Completion of the Optimization of the Line Stříbro – Planá u Mariánských Lázní
Stříbro, 13th January 2012 – The completed construction mainly contributes to enhanced line speed of up to 140 km/h from the original 60-90 km/h and to enhanced rail operation safety. The optimization focused on a 32km-long single-track section, including seven railway stations (Stříbro, Milíkov, Svojšín, Ošelín, Pavlovice, Brod nad Tichou and Planá u Mariánských Lázní). The section is part of III Railway Transit Corridor. The construction is situated in a most complex and inaccessible territory. The investor of the construction is the Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organization and a significant share - ca 73 % is co-funded by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund.
In terms of the European interoperability, the crucial benefit of the implemented project consists in accomplishing the international safe passage capability of the requested line class (D4 UIC) and the loading gauge (UIC – GC). Ing. Pavel Habarta, MBA, SŽDC´s Executive Director stressed on the occasion of today´s festive completion that „extensive adjustments and the reconstruction had also been carried out on bridge structures, level crossings and the contact line system. The passengers are provided with new comfortable platforms in the stations and other public areas have been reconstructed as well. There is also necessary technological equipment represented by new up-to-date telecommunication and signalling installation to enhance the rail operation safety.“
The reconstructed sections are quite inaccessible, which called for necessary long-lasting traffic closures during the implementation. „By dividing the construction work into phases together with the optimization of building procedures we have cut the duration of the total traffic closure, thus minimizing the impact on the passengers in the respective section,“ said Mr. Jindřich Topol, Executive Director of the Division of Skanska. Along the whole length of main tracks, a new railway superstructure of the international system (UIC60) has been laid on concrete sleepers with the so-called baseplateless resilient fastening. The railway superstructure of S49 can be found in the other running tracks in the stations. The contact line system complies with the parameters for the speed of up to 160 km/h.
All stations and open line sections have been equipped with the signalling installation of the 3rd (latest) category, with the option of remote control. New cables have been laid along the whole line; in the future they shall connect the whole train control system and the traffic operation control to one centralized traffic control in Pilsen and prospectively in Prague as well. The installation of the telecommunication equipment also included the installation of the electric fire alarm system in relevant stations, electric signalling system, camera surveillance system, station announcement system etc. The construction also included the installation of noise walls for ca 4.5 km, in line with sanitary standards and regulations.
The project documentation has been developed by the joint-stock company SUDOP Praha; following a competitive tendering the contractor became the „Association Stříbro“, whose members are Skanska, a.s. (chief member), OHL ŽS a.s. and Eurovia CS, a.s.
The anticipated investment cost may total CZK 4,391,067,000 without VAT. The funds for this project have been granted by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The project is co-funded by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport. The level of EU co-funding is ca CZK 2,579,310,907.
