Festive completion of the Optimization of the line České Velenice – Veselí nad Lužnicí, 1st construction

České Velenice, 11thMay 2012 – the objective of the optimization was to provide suitable technical conditions
at railway station České Velenice which would comply with European parameters as well as with interoperability standards for European railway system lines. It also contributed to enhanced safety of the railway transport
and passengers. The investor of the project is the Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organization (SŽDC). The Optimization of the line České Velenice – Veselí nad Lužnicí, 1stconstruction is largely co-funded
by the European Union.

 

 

The construction starts on km 163,100 at the state border with Austria. The construction ends are in the direction of České Budějovice on km 166,000 and of Veselí nad Lužnicí on km 1,868. The construction work at railway station České Velenice was implemented on the premises of the current railway station. The complete construction is situated in the cadastral area of České Velenice. The construction mainly focuses on the overall change of the track layout at railway station České Velenice, a new layout of platforms with 550 mm over the top of rail to allow an easier access and exit for passengers, a new bridge structure over the Lužnice River, a state-of-the-art signalling installation and primarily on full electrification for AC traction 25 kV 50 Hz.

The new permanent way of tracks and switches will have S49 shape on concrete sleepers. Switches will be equipped with electric switch heating. The frontier railway bridge over the Lužnice River and all culverts in the area of the railway station will be reconstructed. The whole station will be equipped with an overhead contact line following the electrified line from Austrian Gmünd and the completed electrification of the line to České Budějovice. The construction also includes the implementation of the new traction substation and the reconstruction of the passenger building to house the technology of up-to-date signalling
and telecommunication installations, including a new station announcement system. The platforms can be reached via barrier-free access paths equipped with navigation systems (a sound alert system, guide-rails) to facilitate the orientation of visually-impaired citizens.  

The implementation of the construction ensured the line speed of up 100 km/hour for standard units, obstruction clearance
for loading gauge UIC GC and load class D4. The project documentation was developed by SUDOP Praha, a.s. The contractor
of the construction is the „Association České Velenice“, represented by building companies Viamont DSP a.s., Ústí nad Labem
and FIRESTA – Fišer, rekonstrukce, stavby a.s., Brno. Remote traffic control was also established in the track section České Budějovice – České Velenice and transition of traction systems25 kV,50 Hz and 15 kV, 16 and 2/3 Hz on the railway bridge at the frontier with Austria.

The maximum investment cost totals CZK 870,066,618. This project is co-funded by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund within the Operational Programme Transport; the maximum amount of the contribution is CZK 512,907,314.
