Reconstruction of important railway node in Přerov completed
Přerov, 28 April 2014 – Freight and passenger trains on Rail Transit Corridor II can now take full profit of improved parameters on the important Přerov rail node. The Railway Infrastructure Administration today festively completed the first phase of its reconstruction amounting more than 4 billion CZK.
Construction works included earthwork and tracks adaptations in order to increase operation speed and safety. Works began in September 2009 on the station forecourt in the section starting from Horní Moštěnice stop up to the so-called. Mádr underpass; their completion enabled increasing speed up to 160 km/h. This was followed by a reconstruction of main and relief tracks and building a double-track extension for transit trains in the passenger station outside of platform edges for a speed of 80 km/h. Therefore platforms No 2, 3 and 4 underwent a basic change including their location.
For the planned passenger transport timetable, nine platform edges had to be built. Barrier-free access for passengers to the platforms has been assured by a new southern underpass with lifts; the current underpass was reconstructed as well. Historical roofing of the platforms has been refurbished too.
A part of the project was total reconstruction of the railway superstructure and substructure as well as four bridges. The most important of these was a five-track bridge over the river Bečva. Moreover the overhead line, signalling and safety equipment was rebuilt and new cables were laid down along the whole trackage to connect the system of safeguarding train rides and operation control. Creating an anti-noise barrier in Lověšice and implementing individual anti-noise-measures was also included in the construction.
A second stage will take up the just completed reconstruction dealing with the triangle of rail lines between the already finished constructions in direction Olomouc, Hranice na Moravě and precisely Přerov Station. Among others, the Dluhonice operating point will undergo reconstruction as well.
The supplier of works was the Association Přerov with OHL ŽS, a.s as leading partner. The project was co-financed by more than 80% by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund within the Operational Programme Transport. The maximum amount of support was 2.935 billion CZK. Financial national resources were provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
