The station Ústí nad Orlicí gets a new passenger tunnel thanks to reconstruction
Ústí nad Orlicí, 27 March 2013 – The new passenger tunnel and high platform will raise safety of passengers who have to cross the track while getting to the trains. Not only this advantage will be brought by the construction called „Passage through the railway junction Ústí nad Orlicí“, which was inaugurated nowadays. The client is the Railway Infrastructure Administration with financial participation of the Operational Programme Transport and the Cohesion Fund of the European Union.
The purpose of the construction is to reconstruct this station so that it is adjusted to the highest train speed possible, modernized telecommunication and safety plant, contact system and power supply. Thanks to the station safety plant, 35 switches will be driven, 30 of which are being heated. There will be two elevated centre platforms with four usable platform edges 1 350 metres long for passengers’ use. Grade separated access to trains will be provided by the passenger tunnel and persons with reduced mobility and orientation have two lifts at their disposal.
The speed at the station is limited to 70 km/h. A subsequent track section to Česká Třebová was modernized to the speed of 160 km/h and a similar modification is planned in the case of the line Ústí nad Orlicí-Choceň. The level crossing in the direction to Česká Třebová on the local road to Kerhartice will be cancelled. Passengers and cyclists can use the new passenger tunnel which will moreover offer crossing with the cycleway Ústí nad Orlicí-Choceň. Access for automobile transport will be provided by a bridging of Tichá Orlice with a connection to the station Ústí nad Orlicí.
The current section running in the acute curve will be replaced by a relaying made of three bridges over Třebovka, a road of second category and the confluence of Třebovka and Tichá Orlice. The riverbed will be modified and moved at the same time. The track gets noise barriers and change of windows and other noise measures on particular houses will be made.
The current passenger building at the station, which was declared a historical landmark in 2010, will stay in the middle of the trackage. Due to its state and location it will not be used for traffic control and passenger clearing anymore. This function will be taken over by a new building, both for entering the passenger tunnel and for placing technologies and traffic control.
A part of the construction is also the junction track Letohrad-Ústí nad Orlicí in the section Lanšperk-Ústí nad Orlicí.The signalling and control systems and safeguarding of all level crossings on this track section will be reconstructed.
