The Czech Government endorsed the “live infrastructure” – a significant feature of the Czech railway transformation
Prague, 10/02/2011 – The Government of the Czech Republic endorsed a draft submitted by the Minister of Transport on the transfer of approximately 9.500 members of staff from Czech Railways to Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organization. This crucial decision shall complete the transformation process of the Czech rail. As of 1.7.2011 its infrastructure as well as the operation control will finally be separated from rail carriers.
The strategic decision of the Ministry of Transport CR to accelerate the transformation process was made in the autumn 2010 aiming to achieve and provide all carriers with an equal access on the railway network, thus creating a competitive environment.
The transfer of rail-related activities to SŽDC as the contemporary manager of the railway infrastructure will result in establishing a complex unit. Besides the enhanced flexibility within organizing the rail transport in the Czech Republic, it will also lead to reduced costs of the rail operation. This will ensure a primary control over the utilization of financial means within rail services.
