Passengers in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí can use elevated platforms


Frýdlant nad Ostravicí, February 10, 2014 – Railway infrastructure parameters are being improved not only on transit corridors but in other places as well. The last example can be Frýdlant nad Ostravicí Station, the extensive reconstruction of which has been finished today by the Railway Infrastructure Administration. The building operations took approximately a year and cost almost 238 Mio CZK (approx. 9 Mio EUR).



Frýdlant nad Ostravicí is one of the important stations on the line leading from Ostrava to Valašské Meziříčí. It is plentifully used also by passengers who change trains here to Ostravice, located at the foothills of Beskydy Mountains. Not only them could notice a considerable change of the reconstructed station. A platform with elevated platform edges especially helped to improve travelling comfort. Two platform shelters serve passengers against bad weather. Barrier-free accessibility to the platform is provided with a new underpass with lifts.

Other objects of the reconstruction were superstructure, substructure, bridges and level crossings. Trackage newly allowing simultaneous trains departure to Frenštát pod Radhoštěm and Ostravice was reconstructed as well. The changes also affected signalling and control systems, lighting at the station and 13 switches in total got new electric heating. Train speed after the reconstruction has increased to 50 - 70 km/h. All changes were designed with regard to the planned track electrification.

The project has been co-financed by more than 83 % by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund within the Operational Programme Transport. National costs were financed from the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure resources.
