Reconstruction in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí improves station parameters
Frýdlant nad Ostravicí, 13 March 2013 – Already this year, passengers at the railway station Frýdlant nad Ostravicí can use the high passenger platforms which they can reach through the new passenger tunnel. It is one of the concrete results of reconstruction the opening ceremony of which is being held today in Frýdlant.
Trains directing from Ostrava can now enter the station Frýdlant nad Ostravicí with a maximum speed of 40 km/h. This is caused by the construction of switches from 1979 which are placed on wooden ties and after years of operation they are considerably worn with use. A similar situation occurs on the opposite side of this important station, on the busy line from Ostrava to Meziříčí.
Another limiting factor is the connection of the branch line from Frýdlant to Ostravice which does not allow parallel running of more trains. The line is also embedded in a limited track alignment with the reverse curves´ radius of 180 m, which allows a maximum speed of 30 km/h. The level platforms edge height is 200 mm with a foot level crossing in the middle.
The main objective is reconstruction of the railway substructure and track, bridges, level crossing and construction of high passenger platforms for the first and second track including an elevated platform. The changes will also affect signalling equipment, lighting and 13 switch heatings at the station. The reconstruction is projected with regard to the planned electrification of the track already. Train speed will raise to 50 - 70 km/h.
From an architectural point of view, the existing buildings, the already mentioned passenger tunnel 30 meters long and two platform shelters for passenegrs will be reconstructed. The roofing of the passenger tunnel is adapted to the mountain ground and similar constructions on this railway line.
The project is co-financed under the Operational Programme Transport from the Cohesion Fund of the European Union.
