Travelling by Train on the Line Hradec Králové – Trutnov Is Now Faster and Safer


Správa železniční dopravní cesty festively completed the revitalisation of the railway line Hradec Králové – Jaroměř – Trutnov. The biggest asset of the project is a safety increase, better travelling comfort and higher railway transport speed.

The construction included adaptations of the railway superstructure and substructure, bridges, culverts and technological installations while taking into account required line speed which increased up to 120 kph in some places. Builders also reconstructed railway stations and stops. Passengers will appreciate more comfortable and safer train boarding from higher platforms.

Another part of the construction was adapting safety installations at railway crossings. Those crossings equipped only by St. Andrew’s crosses acquired light safety installations. New safety equipment Category 3 including cables was installed between Předměřice nad Labem and Smiřice as well as in the section Česká Skalice – Starkoč – Červený Kostelec – Malé Svatoňovice where it replaced communication by phone.

In accordance with the global objective of Operational Programme Transport Priority Axis 3 which is an improvement of transport outside the Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T, higher transport availability was achieved, railway infrastructure capacity and railway operation quality for a prospective transport extent was assured. Another positive impact of the project is increasing safety at railway crossings and ensuring more fluent railway and road transport in the given section.

The project designated as Revitalisation of the line Hradec Králové - Jaroměř - Trutnov was considerably supported by financial resources from the European Union. The project was a phased one where Phase I was co-financed within OPT 2007–2013 and Phase II within OPT 2014–2020. Total costs of the project Phase (I and II) equalled CZK 998,643,403 (VAT excluded). The planned EU contribution from the Cohesion Fund for the whole construction amounted up to CZK 802,728,373. National financing was assured by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
