Inside investigation of the condition of the railway section Kostelec u Jihlavy – Slavonice
Prague, 06/05/2011 – The technical conditions of the railway section Kostelec u Jihlavy – Slavonice indicate no reasons for concern about the safety of passengers and rail transport on this line. The track is regularly checked, maintained and reconstructed if necessary in order to ensure safety.
In 2010, funds at the amount of more than CZK 14 million were invested in the repair and maintenance of the railway infrastructure on this line. Recently on this line, approximately 3 000 sleepers and 2 000 m of rails have been replaced, ten level crossings and three culverts have been repaired and bridge sleepers on four bridges have been replaced. The safety was and still is ensured with enhanced supervision and inspection activities which focus on monitoring relevant defects; their progress was evaluated and necessary measures were taken in case of their expansion. In this context, it needs to be noted that in practice all types of such defects did not spread or progressed any further. Currently, the rails are being replaced with the anticipated completion of works by 30.6. this year.
The one-sided presentation of views related to the rail operation safety by the Rail Inspection is of no benefit to solving the respective cases. The common goal of the rail operator, carriers as well as the Rail Inspection towards the travelling public should be an unbiased and undistorted picture of the railway as the safest way of land transportation ever, as supported by the statistics of accident rate on roads in comparison to the rail transport.
