New stage going to take up the first part of line Lysá nad Labem – Praha-Vysočany optimisation in several years

Prague 31 July 2013 – Modernisation of the triple-track corridor section between stations Praha-Běchovice and Úvaly which was in preparation for a long time could start this fall already. Due to reduced capacity of this busy line, some trains will be using an alternate route through Lysá nad Labem. In this connection, the Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) implemented an investment designated Optimisation of the line Lysá nad Labem – Praha-Vysočany, 1st construction. The construction supplier was the AŽD Praha Company. This operation was co-financed within the Operational Programme Transport from the EU Cohesion Fund.

The objective of the construction was especially increasing capacity of the line Lysá nad Labem – Praha-Vysočany, not only for a diverted trains mentioned above but also for further development of integrated transport in Prague. A new island platform with two boarding edges of a 550 mm standard height was built in the railway station Praha-Horní Počernice in the place of the current track No 4 which together with the original platform enables boarding and exiting three trains at once.  The island platform is accessible by a new underpass equipped with an elevator for persons with reduced mobility.

A steady flow of traffic as well was line capacity was increased by introducing modern safety equipment being used for operation control. In the Praha-Vysočany station and on the Skály deviation an electronic signal box ESA-11 has been installed and operation between these points is now being controlled by a two-direction automatic gate circuit. In the section Čelákovice – Mstětice – Praha-Horní Počernice –Skály deviation, a one-direction automatic gate circuit is in use.

In the railway station Praha-Vysočany and on the Skály deviation, electric heating has been installed on 19 decisive switches. An amplification cable has also been assembled within the construction from the Balabenka sub-station up to the head of the Praha-Vysočany railway station. The cable is installed on current masts of the contact line

The construction “Optimisation of the line i Lysá nad Labem – Praha-Vysočany, 1st construction “ is financed within the Operational Programme Transport from financial resources of the State Transport Infrastructure Fund and from the EU Cohesion Fund. The EU co-financing rate can reach 70,35% of eligible construction costs. Therefore the  contribution could amount at maximum 151 590 729 CZK. National financing has been assured by the State Transport Infrastructure Fund. Total planned investment construction costs amount 228 683 000 CZK.

At present a feasibility study for optimisation of the 2nd construction part between stations Praha-Vysočany and  Lysá nad Labem is under discussion. This will include i.a. a complex exchange of rail superstructure on this section more than 20 km long. The beginning of construction works as such is planned within the horizon of several years.
