Trains to Slovakia running on new tracks


Mosty u Jablunkova, 24 February 2014 – Modernisation of the Rail Transit Corridor III advanced up to the most Eastern part of our country. On this very day, total reconstruction of the line section from Bystřice nad Olší to the Slovak border was festively finalised. The construction with costs exceeding five billion Czech crowns was carried out by the Association SRB with the Subterra company at its head. 



The line section between Bystřice nad Olší and the Slovak state border is an important part of the Rail Transit Corridor III and of the Trans-European Network at the same time. The main objective of this project was especially an increase of transport speed, safety and travelling comfort for passengers, but also efficiency improvement of railway freight transport.

On the whole line section 19 kilometres long, railway superstructure and substructure was completely replaced, 29 bridges, 38 culverts, 7 foot bridges, 9 crossings and other related structures were repaired or newly built. Railway stations Mosty u Jablunkova, Návsí and Bystřice nad Olší and stops in Mosty u Jablunkova, Bocanovice and Hrádek ve Slezsku were completely reconstructed. Barrier-free access up to platforms is a matter-of-course. Seven anti-noise barriers were built with a total length of 11.2 km, construction of a bridge structure for big mammals’ migration was part of the project as well.

On the line from Mosty u Jablunkova, two single-track tunnels from 1870 and 1917 were originally situated which  did not meet fire safety requirements anymore. During modernisation works, one tunnel was reconstructed to a double-track one with a length of  612 metres and the other one was adapted to an escape gallery for firemen’s services. The unused part of the tunnel was filled.

The project is co-financed by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund within the Operational Programme Transport for 2007–2013. The EU co-financing rate can reach 78,99% from eligible construction costs at maximum which amounts to 4.226.228,080 CZK. The remaining costs will be financed by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
