Modernization of the line Votice – Benešov u Prahy: Work progress (September 2011)


Given the climatic conditions, it is possible to fully develop the planned working processes; modernization work on the line Votice – Benešov u Prahy is underway, in particular during the ongoing possession of the odd set of tracks of the railway station Olbramovice.



Along the whole line, currently mostly near the railway station Olbramovice and in the track sections Votice – Olbramovice and Tomice – Bystřice, work proceeds on successive excavations and concreting of the foundations of the overhead line masts, their construction and equipment, subsequent head-span and dismantling of original masts and foundations, modification of cabling and components of the signalling installation, cabling relocation in order to continue the construction.  

The work on the railway substructure currently proceeds on the line relocation to recently built tunnels in the track section Votice – Olbramovice, in particular as a follow-up to finalized bridge structures and in the area between the Votický and Olbramovický Tunnel. On the premise of the railway station Olbramovice, the aforementioned reconstruction of the odd set of tracks is carried out and the implementation is planned in phases until 25/11/2011. The work in track sections also proceeds between the stations Olbramovice and Bystřice on cuts, embankments, slope work and breaking. Bare slopes after earthwork are covered with humus and networked. In the track section Olbramovice – Tomice railway superstructure is being built on the parallel track. In the track section Tomice – Bystřice, an adjacent track is being built and the operation has already been launched on the newly built track.

Near the new bridge structure over the village of Srbice a noise barrier was installed as a follow-up to the noise embankments. Work still proceeds on five built tunnels, one is excavated – the Votický - and four are pierced – the Olbramovický, Zahradnický and Tomický and Tomický II.

Near the Votický Tunnel, rehabilitation proceeds as well as work carried out by firms participating in the tunnel equipment – suspensions for overhead contact line, installation of the signalling equipment components, as well as the installation of the line for tunnel lighting.

Work proceeds inside the Olbramovický Tunnel and some other work is launched in the Zahradnický Tunnel by firms participating in the tunnel equipment – suspensions for overhead contact line, installation of the signalling equipment components, as well as the installation of the line for the tunnel lighting. Inside the Tomický Tunnel work proceeds on concreting of cambered concrete, central drainage, laying and concreting of multi-channels, pavements and backfills of portal sections. Concreting of the secondary lining is carried out inside the Tomický Tunnel II.

Technological facilities are being constructed near the Zahradnický Tunnel. Construction workers also continue their work on bridge structures. Work is being finalized on the construction of the new railway bridge over Road I/18 with the backfill of wings to allow continuation on a new relocation through a railway embankment. On the premise of the railway station Olbramovice, the extended bridge structure is being fully reconstructed, its part in the odd set of tracks is being finalized. The bridge structure of the railway relaying in the track section Tomice – Bystřice is being finalized; work proceeds with laying the groundwork near the road bridge. New pipe culverts are set up on line relocations; however, it is important to pay attention to proper laying due to different geological conditions as against the project. As regards the bridges and culverts that are extended or just redeveloped, the work focuses on cutting caverns and their treatment, regrinding, grouting, jetting, jointing, concreting of cornices, or installation of new supports, applying protecting and uniform coats, or paving and attaching a railing.

In the next period in addition to other tasks, work will proceed on the possession of the odd set of tracks in the railway station Olbramovice, laying of tracks and completing the tasks of the 1st phase.

The construction work calls for necessary traffic closure and detours on neighbouring roads. In the daytime, the line blockage applies to the ongoing work on the foundations of the overhead contact line. The construction also affects traffic operations. The traffic is restricted in places where work proceeds on bridge structures or it is directed to bypass roads.

The funds were provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. Simultaneously, the co-funding of this project by the European Union under the Operational Programme Transport was applied for and the planned contribution from the Cohesion Fund totals CZK 4,085,845,894. The application for subsidy was preliminary approved by the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic in November 2009 and the approval process proceeds at the level of the European Commission.
