Operation on the line Kutná Hora - Zruč nad Sázavou safer thanks to modernised railway crossings
Kutná Hora, 22 September 2015 – Today, the Railway Infrastructure Administration festively completed the modernisation of railway crossings on the line between Kutná Hora and Zruč nad Sázavou. Six crossings of the railway line with road communications underwent reconstruction in total. The main asset of the project is especially increasing rail operation safety in this section and ensuring higher comfort for passengers.
The project is based on priorities of the Operational Programme Transport which has as objective to improve railway transport outside the Trans-European Network. Its purpose is especially increasing safety on railway crossings and equipment reliability, decreasing the human factor influence and centralising safety equipment. Another positive impact of the modernisation is increasing smoothness of railway and road operation in the neighbourhood of the crossings.
”A primordial objective of the crossings’ modernisation on the line between Kutná Hora and Zruč nad Sázavou was increasing operation safety. Thanks to the project, it is now also possible to increase line speed up to 60 km/h and speed for crossing road vehicles from earlier 30 up to 50 km/h“, says Mr. Pavel Surý, Director General of the Railway Infrastructure Administration.
The project was dealing with construction and reconstruction of six railway crossings that were safeguarded before the modernisation only by St. Andrew’s crosses. Therefore, road vehicles had to decrease speed in their vicinity due to bad vision conditions. The crossings were provided with new light safety equipment, one of them was moreover equipped with barriers. Three crossings acquired a signalling system for blind persons. Railway superstructure and substructure was also adapted on selected crossings.
Total costs of the construction designated as Increasing safety on railway crossings in the section Kutná Hora – Zruč amount up to 55,705,168 CZK (VAT excluded). The investor is the Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organisation. The project was co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport up to a maximum amount of 43,780,081 CZK. National financing was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The supplier of the construction is the company AŽD Praha.
