Olomouc station has a new platform after reconstruction

Olomouc, 16 June 2014 – A Director’s control day took place today at the Olomouc Railway Station reconstruction site together with an inspection of the project concerning this important railway junction’s modernisation.

Since the beginning of 2014, works on the overhead contact line were being carried out, i.e. concreting foundations for traction poles, equipping new poles and putting a part of the overhead line at the station forecourt and in the passenger station into operation. Departure tables in the “new” (Hodolany) underpass were replaced by new, more modern ones.

For reasons of construction progression, cables of safety installations, low and high voltage cables and a suspended optical cable had to be shifted and new cables for provisional and final safety equipment had to be laid down. A provisional T4 substation was placed in front of the central signal box and the reconstruction of the current substation on the ground floor of the central signal box started. Old track panels were removed and dismantled, sanitation of the railway substructure and reconstruction of the railway superstructure was carried out in a part of the station forecourt and the passenger station. A new platform No 5 has been put into operation including information and broadcasting facilities for passengers, connected to the Hodolany underpass.

An annex building to the central signal box was also constructed; the station safety equipment (electronic interlocking) is currently being assembled there. Safety equipment construction continues also by building up external parts, i.e. signals, point machines and jaw locks. Construction works continue in the “old” underpass having as objective to connect it with new Platform No 5 and subsequently with Platform No 4 (currently in reconstruction). Following that, Platforms No 3, 2, 1 and 1A (formerly No 5) will be gradually reconstructed. On the bridge over the Pavlovice underpass, the ledge and bridge deck are being reconstructed; a provisional relocation of the cable bridge is being prepared on the bridge over the Bystřice river.

The construction has been submitted for co-financing by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund within the Operational Programme Transport. Total support amounts to 83.1% of eligible costs. The remaining part is being co-financed from national resources by the intermediary of the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The construction’s supplier is the association of companies OHL ŽS and Alpine Bau CZ.
